On April 8, 2024, Education Administration of East Kazakhstan region hosted a meeting of French language teachers from Gymnasiums No. 10 and No. 38 of Ust-Kamenogorsk city, and Regional Valeological Specialized School Complex for Gifted Children with Mr. Alex Bortolan, Adviser for Culture and Cooperation of the French Embassy in Kazakhstan.
The Head of Education Administration of East Kazakhstan region I. A. Chernysheva welcomed the participants of the meeting and briefed the guest on the current state of French language education in schools of the region.
A.V. Akhayev, the Chair of Scientific and Educational Council “Open Scientific Center”, mentioned that since 2009, French language teaching in the region has incorporated through game technologies developed by French scientists. Teachers publish articles based on their work experiences in the French almanac magazine “France – Kazakhstan”, and there is close cooperation with universities in Paris. A French citizen and volunteer Alan Guerin provided assistance by enriching the library of Regional Valeological Specialized School-Complex for Gifted Children with books in French. Educational tours to Europe were organized as part of the cooperation. Regional Valeological Specialized School-Complex for Gifted Children plans to introduce French language education for children from kindergarten to 5th grade through additional classes as part of extracurricular activities.
Mr. Bortolan spoke about the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the French Republic regarding the establishment of international French schools in our country and teaching French in educational organizations. This initiative aims to facilitate future enrollment of students in French universities.
During the dialogue with teachers, Mr. Alex Bortolan proposed concluding a memorandum of mutual cooperation, and the establishment of the French Alliance in Ust-Kamenogorsk city. This initiative would allow accumulating the experience of teachers of the region who speak French, and enabling students to receive information from native speakers.
The Head of Education Administration of East Kazakhstan region I. A. Chernysheva supported the initiatives of the French guest, expressing hopes for long-term cooperation in French language education not only among schoolchildren, but also among students and the adult population of the region interested in French culture.
